To assist the urologist in making an accurate diagnosis, UroCor LabsSM maintains the largest dedicated group of urologic pathologists in the U.S., working in tandem with the company's urologist clients to

integrate all facets of the patient's case throughout the disease management cycle. This specialized approach allows UroCor LabsSM to understand the needs of urologists, deliver expanded service levels and capabilities, provide quicker access to new technology, and enhance reporting capabilities. Serving as the foundation for integrated disease management, UroCor LabsSM provides diagnostic services to more than 30% of the 7,500 office-based urologists nationwide.

Gerald J. O’Dowd, MD
Medical Director

Dr. O'Dowd is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine.  During his residency in anatomical and clinical pathology at the University of Utah Medical Center, Dr. O'Dowd developed a special interest in cytopathology. Following that area of interest, he completed his fellowship training in cytopathology and surgical pathology at the Medical College of Virginia, specializing in fine-needle aspiration.  Prior to private practice, Dr. O'Dowd was appointed to the faculty of the Department of Pathology, George Washington University School of Medicine and served as an attending pathologist at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

Pathologists

Usha R. Vasa, MD
Dr. Vasa is a graduate of M.S. University, Baroda, India.  Upon graduation, she completed a residency in anatomic pathology at Middlesex General Hospital and Rutgers Medical School in Piscataway, New Jersey.  She then went on to complete a clinical and anatomical pathology residency at New York University Medical Center.  Dr. Vasa completed fellowships in immunohematology at the American Red Cross in Chicago and in cytopathology at the University of Illinois, Chicago. She has held the position of Chief of Anatomic Pathology at the U.S. Army Hospital in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, as well as various pathology and medical director positions in Chicago.  She served as an instructor to pathology residents at the University of Illinois Hospital and clinical instructor at Rutgers Medical School.  Before joining UroCorSM, Dr. Vasa was Associate Pathologist and Director of the Blood Bank and Cytopathology at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois. She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, cytopathology, and blood banking.

Edward Poole, MD
Dr. Poole is from Kansas City, Kansas. He completed medical school at the University of Kansas Medical Center, and completed a fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center in surgical pathology and cytopathology.

Grace Asuncion Ang, MD
Dr. Ang is a graduate of St. Thomas University, Manila, and completed her Master of Science at Temple University.  In addition to her residency in pathology at Michael Reese Hospital, she completed fellowships in microbiology and cytopathology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.  Before joining UroCor®, Dr. Ang was a member of the Department of Cytopathology at the University of Illinois.

Arja Uotila Maberry, MD, PhD
Dr. Maberry is a graduate of the University of Tampere School of Medicine, Finland. She completed her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. Dr. Maberry also completed a fellowship in immunopathology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. Following her extensive training, Dr. Maberry served on the faculty of the Department of Pathology at the University of Missouri. Prior to joining UroCor LabsSM, she served as a general pathologist for more than four years in the Kansas City metropolitan area.  During that time, Dr. Maberry developed a special interest in cytopathology and surgical pathology.  The American Board of Pathology certified Dr. Maberry in anatomic and clinical pathology.  Dr. Maberry also holds a PhD in basic immunology.

Paul Kirshman, MD
Dr. Kirshman graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Montpellier, France. He completed his first-year residency in internal medicine at the University of Montpellier. He then was a Post-Sophomore Fellow in pathology at SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse.  Dr. Kirshman also completed an anatomical and clinical pathology residency at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, New York.  Before joining UroCor, Dr. Kirshman was a fellow in molecular pathology in Dr. M.E. Sobel's lab at the National Cancer Institute.

Leo Lu, MD
Dr. Lu obtained a M.B., B.S. Institute of Medicine (I), Rangoon University, in Rangoon, Burma and has served on the Faculty School of Cytotechnology at the University Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, as well as serving as an Associate Pathologist, Anatomic Pathology, Department of Pathology, University Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida. He has most recently been an Associate Pathologist at Heartland Pathology Consultants, Inc. and Midwest City Pathology Laboratory.

Xiao-Cong Peng, MD, PhD
Graduated from Beijing Second Medical College, Beijing, China, 1982, and also acquired a MS in Pharmacology from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in 1985. Dr. Peng continued his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Division of Toxicology obtaining a PhD in Toxicology. He then obtained a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at New York University Medical Center where he completed his residency in Pathology and has served as Staff Pathologist at Universal Diagnostic Laboratory. Dr. Peng is a member of College of American Pathologist and American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
