Focus on Urology

UroCor’s Research & Development develops advanced clinical diagnostic and prognostic products as well as knowledge-based decision support tools for the detection, diagnosis and prognosis of bladder and prostate cancer as well as other complex diseases such as interstitial cystitis, prostatitis, and benign prostatic hypertrophy.  UroCor has made significant investments in R&D to develop innovative proprietary products that are accessed by our community-based urologists.  These products include UroScoreTM (a prostate cancer outcome prediction algorithm), clinically validated molecular forms of PSA assays, a Stones 24-hour urine analysis product, a DD-23 bladder cancer detection biomarker, and a new bladder cancer molecular-based assay for p53 mutations that works on cytology specimens.

The R&D group has also developed a unique and patented mechanism to combine the use of biomarkers, DNA ploidy and a proprietary nuclear morphometry analysis algorithm [Quantitative Nuclear Grade (QNG)] to determine the stage as well as likelihood of progression of prostate cancer as well as response to therapy.  The R&D group has also discovered over thirty new genes of potential utility to the improvement of management of prostate cancer and BPH, which are covered by issued and pending patents.
